Hey I’m Dr. Floyd!!! I have been in education for 27 years, and I still absolutely love it!!! If you are someone who is new to your own classroom, or someone who has lost that joy in your work - struggling to make it through the day with your students, know that I built this course for YOU, to empower YOU and to help make YOUR life easier, by sharing my wealth of expertise on what works from the front lines of education, because when it comes to the classroom - I have seen it all.
I have been a high school English teacher in Ford Bend, Texas an elementary and jr. high school substitute teacher in the Port Arthur, Texas and an English adjunct professor at Lone Star College in Cypress, Texas. I’ve spent 17 years as a school counselor for all levels: elementary, middle school & high school, and today, I am an assistant principal in the Katy Independent School District – a role I’ve loved now for two years.
I’ve been featured in the Who’s Who for American Teachers Assoc & presented at many educator conferences. I’m certified in Special Education, Gifted and Talent (GT), and am Design Specialist for the Houston Independent school district helping to create courses that are successful for both students & educators. I am an author, a leading Trauma Informed Facilitator (TIF) helping students & educators identify & deal with student trauma, and I have been an MTSS coordinator, testing coordinator and student support counselor as well in my career.
I have a Bachelors in English from Dillard University, in Louisiana, a Masters in Counseling from Prairie View A&M, Texas and I earned my Educational Leadership Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, My dissertation focused on 9th grade student retention & overall how to help keep kids in school. I truly believe you can learn something from everyone, and I am still learning today – especially from my daughter!
One of my favorite quotes is: “kids don’t learn from people they don’t like.” and while we can’t please everyone, I’m excited to share with you how I have learned to connect & build positive relationships with students, parents, administrators and more, in even the most difficult situations. So get excited educators, and get ready for better in your life, because we’re about to GO GET IT, together!
